Friday Evening,

Well, the summer is finally here, and the earthquakes seem to have settled down finally, although we had several last week besides the big one that sent us all packing. My kids are out of school at last. Yippeeeeee.... Now that just means I will have them underfoot all the time now! Oh come now, you out there with kids can understand this!

The day after the quake!

Tuesday, my family and I lived through a very scary ordeal! We had an earthquake here!!! It measured 7.2 on the Richter scale, and hit less than 100 miles from us ~~ a Major quake. This is the only area in the whole US that has ever lost lives in conjunction with a tsunami after a quake, and everyone here took this one as seriously. The quake hit and shook my apartment ominously. The surreal part was when the warning blasts started sounding, and everything went into slow motion as we grabbed the cats and turtles and just ran... No idea of where to go. Just ran. Then we were in our car with the rest in the middle of traffic, all heading inland to safety. They said later that some 4,000 people evacuated in 20 minutes.
But we were lucky, we got to go home. No tsunami this time.
I think we are still in shock, walking on eggshells because of the idea of aftershocks.
The world feels strange. I think it hit me harder than I am willing to admit. But putting my feelings in print seems to soothe my soul. I can't say anything in front of my kids, because they panic all over again whenever the subject is brought up, especially my son. As it is he has been chattering nonstop about it since it happened.
Funny thing, we had just discussed the idea of a big shaker here in this area in my geology class about a month ago. About how we were overdue for another quake. But it seemed a million years away then...
We'll get through it. We are all sturdy and strong individuals. Time really is a good thing to heal. I need to bury myself in a painting or something, and then it will be ok!
Thanks for listening

I found another great blog

Just found another great blog, full of recipes and things dedicated to garlic. It is called Garlicster. I have found some wonderful recipes there already. Some fun photos, too. The more I hunt around the blogging community, the more great stuff I find. I have put a link to this blog on mine, so you can get there directly.

Well, my wayward son got home 2 days early and had a great time.
Was there ever any doubt?!

Thursday

Well, it is Thursday and still no word from my wayward son...

I suppose that he is having such a good time that he hasn't thought at all about old mom! I am sure that they would have told me if something bad had happened. I don't have the same sense of foreboding anymore, so I will just ride it out for the next three days until he gets home.

My daughter, wherever, has been loving it with her brother away. We have been reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, in preparation for the next installment, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I am sure it isn't hard to figure out that they are big on fantasy stuff, considering we were so thrilled by Star Wars. We have spent many happy hours reading about Hogwarts and it's inhabitants. I am just supremely grateful to J.K. Rowlings for helping me so much to inspire a love of reading in my kids, and for giving us a venue for spending time together!

My daughter and I have been painting, too, and it has been very rewarding to see her stretch herself creatively. She needs to stop being so self critical, though. (Of course, I can't say much because I am my own worst critic, too.)

I have also found a great source for knitting supplies, called Knit Picks. It has some very good prices on yarns! I am going to make myself something fun this summer to wear for the fall.

I am glad I decided to take the summer off from classes after all.~~~

Monday morning heebie jeebies!

Good morning,
Forgive me for the odd opening. I sent my son off on a 6-day field trip this morning, and I have had the Worse sense of forboding all day... More than just being a nervous mommie letting her youngest go somewhere without her for the first time! I couldn't concentrate at all. I was hoping that by putting my fears on paper (so to speak) that I would be able to release some steam and get over it.

Hasn't happened yet!
Where's the chocolate when you need it???

Wednesday!

Hey!
I just got through watching the Eagles Farewell Concert #1 on TV tonight. It was sooo good to see the group back together again!! While they sang their best known stuff, there were a couple of songs that were new, including a debut song (I thought this was a farewell tour?)
Annnyyyway, it was a great concert, and I hope they go on for a long, long time! I wish they had sung some of their older stuff, but I am definitely not complaining.
