Another Sunday, and spirals

Good morning,
It is early and I have been fussing over a painting that I am trying to create. Although the end result is clearly in my mind, somehow that image cannot connect to the canvas. Part of the subject is a spiral shell, and it has been what has eluded me. In doing research for this painting, I learned that the spiral shell is mathematically perfect, I don't remember what formula exactly correlates to the shell, but the inside swirls are mathematically perfect in the way that they get smaller. It is simple and elegant. Something I definitely am not... I found this one on line, isn't it gorgeous?

A spiral shell is the symbol of healing in psychology, that's another interesting tidbit of useless knowledge encountered. Don't you feel educated?!

This is an important project to get finished, so I will get back to it. After coffee.

Sunday, and a visit from the Village Idiot...

Good morning to you all,
When I started this blog, I wasn't sure exactly what reason I had for doing it. Yesterday, I finally discovered my supreme cause for spewing forth my blatherings. Like an euphony, it came to me. I wanted to hear from the rest of the world, and to get to know them a little. From the safety and comfort of my own worn-out desk chair, of course. I don't have the resources to go out into the world myself, and probably not enough initiative to boot.

I have had an abject thrill every time someone has read my musings, and an even bigger one when someone responded.

Yesterday, I got a response from a man who calls himself "The Village Idiot." His blogsite is entitled "Kicked Puppies," and while I don't begin to say that I find his choice of title amusing (I don't!), I did enjoy reading his blog. HE is just the sort of character that I wanted to get to know. As well as the man who called himself Paul and has a plastic statue of Jesus for his blog icon. And "Mama Dog" who gave me some wonderful comments. And the very nice woman who talked about my Full Moon entry. They are the Real Heart of this world, and I am so lucky to have the chance to talk to them all. There are more of you who have commented on my site, and I don't want to belittle you because I didn't mention you personally. I simply wanted to thank you all.
And finally, to go back to the Village Idiot, I want everyone to refer to the Shakespearean Insult Generator, provided by dear Idiot, whenever you find it in your heart to zing it to someone. It is just too funny! You are my kinda person, sir!!!

Thursday !

Well, I guess summer really is almost over. I got my info today for buying my school books on Monday. Classes start in a little over a week. Although I am looking forward to starting the grind again, part of me wishes summer would last a little longer. The kids don't go back until September 6th. Although frankly, I wish Theirs would come a little sooner... they seem to do nothing but fight amongst themselves lately.

My living room is almost mine again. I only have to post the magazines now. My friend was very generous for giving me so many titles to add to my sales list. I will never get rich on any of it, but it helps keep me busy.

Everyone please check out my links for Mariposa Bath and Body. This is a nice site that sells handmade soaps and bath products. I like little family run businesses like this one. I hope you have a look!

Have a pleasant evening, and more soon.

Friday, and the week goes on...

Anyone need a book?

Well, here I sit in the midst of my latest challenge to my (what must be!) failing intellect. I am up to my armpits, in the middle of a roomful of books and magazines that were given to me "to add to my collection for sale." Sounds easy enough, doesn't it? Sort 'em, clean 'em, sell 'em! But there is a lot more to it than that. I have been doing research for a week, making sure I am selling them for a fair price. That has never been my strong point, pricing things. Thank goodness there are several reputable places to go to look up what the going rates are. My house now smells like well-worn volumes, comforting and organic.

There are a lot of antique titles in this bunch, and the bibliophile in me wants to keep them and read them all, but then I look at my own massive collection of tomes that are lining the walls of half my house on mismatched bookshelves, lining the tops of dressers, and the shelves in everyone's closets. They are sitting carefully stored in see-through boxes at the foot of beds, too. My children and I are avid readers ~~ books are our best buddies!

I have been creatively acquiring used books to sell for about a year now, but never in this quantity at one time. It feels like someone dumped a library in my living room.

Hey, I guess I should get back to all this if I ever want a place to sit down...

Another Tuesday...

Well, the world keeps on turning, and today I am back at the scholarship application thing. I don't care much for the "Dog and Pony Show" but that is what it takes to get the people to notice you. I just hate talking about myself, that's all! Application for funding is good practice for the "real world", though, because it forces me to be self-confident. That is something I admittedly am NOT by nature.
I really appreciate all the people who are out there, willing to encourage students to excell, and help with the bills! When I get rich and famous I will be more than happy to fund a scholarship myself. I think everyone deserves the chance.
Thank you to everyone who keeps coming to this site to hear me chatter!!!!
